Entertainment & Facilities
We have our own minibus which is used twice weekly in good weather for trips out in the afternoon.
We organise trips to shows where disabled access is available – for example the Opera House remove seats for wheelchair access at some matinees and have a wheelchair lift available.
We have our own social activities co-ordinator, currently taking a college diploma in the subject specifically for the older person, who designs and oversees activities within the home.
Arts and crafts, reminiscence therapy and exercise and relaxation as well as all kinds of board games, bingo etc. are encouraged and enjoyed.
We have monthly informal “friends of the Acorn” meetings; these are meetings of residents, relatives and friends to discuss any and all matters whether complaints, suggestions or wishes. These meetings are not attended by any staff, but are under the chairmanship of Mr Edward Rowlinson, whose mother was a resident at the Acorn for many years.
Edward has kindly volunteered to liaise between the group and the owners, passing on comments to them to enable confidentiality.
Various professional entertainers, dancers and singers appear each week, usually on Friday afternoons.
We have a hairdressing salon with our own professional hairdresser; a visiting chiropodist and manicurist are available as is a registered optician. Dental visits can be arranged as required.
Residents can continue with care from their own family doctor if in the area; registration with other local doctors can be arranged if necessary.
Visiting clothes shows are booked throughout the year to enable residents to select and try on clothes without having to leave the home.
