About The Acorn Nursing Home Acorn Nursing Home was a private house until 1989 when it first opened as a nursing home for up to sixteen residents. The Victorian building has large, high-ceilinged rooms and wide corridors and landings that are ideal for a nursing home. In January 1992 Peter and Sue Trend purchased the home, and in June of that year extended the home into its massive gardens to create a purpose-built nursing home for forty residents, whilst still leaving plenty of gardens to prevent the building appearing over-developed, and built in a style which complimented the existing building. In January 2002, various projects began to bring the home in line with the new legislation of the Care Standards Act 2000. In November 2006 the home was taken over the Axlebond Group and is undergoing a new refurbishment plan including new laundry room facilities, new computer systems and emergency access control door entry systems as well as a refurbishment of all rooms within the home. The Home All public rooms, bedrooms and door widths meet and, in most cases, exceed the sizes as stated in the current new minimum standards. Our corridors and landings are wide enough for easy access for wheelchairs, we have a passenger lift to all floors and ramp access. 100% of bedrooms are currently for single occupancy, many of those are en suite. The home is completely centrally heated, with individual controls on each radiator. There are four bath/shower rooms for residents. There is a comprehensive nurse call system throughout the home. There is a fire alarm system fitted, and comprehensive fire procedures which have the full approval of the local fire service.
